Mother To Man Executed By Shabaab Claims Son Is Student

Confusion has reigned over the true identity of a man executed by Somali militant group Alshabaab on Saturday.

According to AlShabaab the man identified as Sahal Ahmed Rafle Afmarandiid was executed in Hiraan region for being a spy.

The mother to Sahal has however come public saying the militant group had falsely accused his son of being a government soldier.

An AlShabaab affiliated website posted a photo purported to be the actual execution of the young man.

The execution followed a verdict by an AlShabaab court linking him to the Somalia National Army.

AlShabaab claimed he is a UAE trained Somali soldier who was on an espionage mission in the Hiraan region before his arrest and execution in Buqaqable town.

According to the mother Sahal was a student and was removed from a vehicle last month in Fidow village Middle Shabelle region on his way to Abudwaq town.

Sahal is the latest person to be executed by AlShabaab for espionage. On February 12 Kenyans were executed by the group for allegedly spying for Kenya.
