Lasnod regime imposes curfew

Local forces in the town of Lasanod have imposed a night curfew to tighten security after weeks of fierce clashes with Somaliland troops.

Authorities said the curfew starting from 9pm until 5am is aimed at beefing up security in the war-hit city.

The local forces have also banned the use of alcohol in the town, warning that anyone found smuggling it into the city will be brought to book.

Fighting has lulled over the past days though combatants are still holding rival positions on the outskirts of the strategic town.

Since February 6, there has been heavy fighting in the northern Somali city of Las Anod  between troops of Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland and local militia from the Dhulbahante clan in northern Somalia.

According to the UN, More than 60,000 Somalis, mainly women and children, have fled to Ethiopia’s Somali region in the past few weeks to escape clashes and insecurity in the city of Lascanod, in Sool region.
