An event organized by Somalia´s Wadajir Party to welcome its leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has been scrapped off by Kenyan authorities under unclear circumstances.
Warsame was to grace the event that had been set to take place at the 2000 plus seating capacity Sir Ali Muslim Club on Tuesday afternoon.
“I am deeply dissapointed by the cancellation of the today´s events as a result of pressure by Villa Somalia” Warsame later tweeted.
“This could be avoided if the international community promptly and decisively reacted to the first signs of suppression of freedom of speech by Farmaajo administration” he added.
“We got communication from the Kenya Police that we could no longer hold the event. No reason was given” Kamal Gutale the Wadajir Party Chairman told Radio Dalsan in a phone interview from Nairobi.
“The event was to welcome our leader and give him the opportunity to address Somalia citizens living in Kenya about the situation in our country” Gutale said.
Last February Kenya Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale based at Somalia´s opposition that were politicking against the Farmaajo presidency. He asserted the Uhuru government´s backing for the Farmaajo administration and warned of stern action on any Somalia politicians “destabilizing” the country from Nairobi.
Warsame arrived in Nairobi last week ending a four month travel ban issued by a Somalia court last January.
He was arrested in December 18th for allegedly colluding with a foreign country to “destabilize” the Farmaajo government.
