Senior SNA official killed in clashes in central Somalia

At least 25 people were killed including senior Somali military official and others wounded on Saturday clashes between Galmudug forces and the Ahlu Sunna group IN Guriel town in central Somalia.

Among the officials killed is Maj. Abdiladif Feyle, the Commander of special US-trained Danab forces in Galmudug according to Somali National News Agency.

”Maj. Abdiladif Feyle, the Commander of SNA’s DANAB unit in Galmudug State has died in the law enforcement operations which the federal and regional forces conducted in Guri-el, on Saturday,” SONNA said.

Other Somali military officials wounded in the fighting are the commander of Hara’amad forces in Galmudug and commander of the 5th Gorgor Commandos Gen. Mohamed Dhagaweyne.

The fighting broke out in Guriel town in the Galmudug region on Saturday and Galmudug forces took control of the town but Ahlu Sunna forces launched a counter-attack on Guriel and led to fierce fighting since last night.

According to residents, both sides used heavy artillery, mortars, machine guns from last night but calm returned this morning in the town.
