De Martini hospital director, Dr. Abdirizak Yusuf Ahmed, tested positive for the COVID-19 in Turkey on Wednesday.
Abdirizak who travelled to Turkey to donate one kidney to his brother had undergone a Rapid Antigen Test which came in positive.
“ I would like to inform my Somali brothers and sisters that I have been diagnosed with COVID-19,” Dr. Abdirazak said in a statement.
He added that he got vaccinated against the respiratory virus while in Somalia and has been isolated in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the horn of the Africa nation has in the past 24 hours repoted 29 new cases bringing the number of confirmed cases in the country to 887.
Six more people succumbed to the virus raising the total number of fatalities to 804.
The ministry said 42 patients recovered from the the virus bringing the number of recoveries to 7,430.
