President Hassan Sheikh commends Djibouti for supporting Somali State Building

Djibouti has been commended for supporting the state building process of the Federal Government of Somalia. 

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday said Djibouti played a significant role in ensuring Somalia gets back to its feet’s. 

The head of state made the remarks at a press conference in Mogadishu after receiving President Ismail Omar Guelleh who is on a state visit to Mogadishu.

The leader of Djibouti arrived in the country with the deployment of heavy security around the airport and Villa Somalia. 

Somalia also suspended all commercial flights bound for Mogadishu on Wednesday as part of Security measures to ensure a safe trip for the head of state and his delegation. 

President Ismael Guelleh will hold bilateral talks with his Somali counterpart.

The main areas of the bilateral talks will include collaboration in trade, healthcare, manufacturing, security, defence and Information, communication and technology.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to drum up support for Somalia in the renewed fight against the militant group Al-shabaab, an area in which Djibouti has stood with Somalia. 

The country is one of the troop contributing countries to the Africa Union Transion Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) helping combat militants toppling the government. 

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Djibouti is an ally of Somalia, commending long serving leader Omar Guelleh for steering efforts to unite Somalia.

Following the civil war in Somalia, the country has been supporting Mogadishu’s protracted struggle to regain central authority. 

The talks in Arte, Djibouti laid the foundations for the current setting of the Federal Republic of Somalia. 

President Ismael Guelleh joins leaders of all of Somalia’s Federal member States who are in Mogadishu for the national consultative forum. 

The forum has been called for by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and aims to plan military strategies, coordination of Judicial Federalism and revenue sharing formula. 

Diplomatic relations between Somalia and neighboring Djibouti are back on track after years of tensions following the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
