State Minister for Foreign Affairs Participates in IORA Ministerial Meeting in Dhaka

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, participated on the Cabinet Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The two-day ministerial meeting will discuss the development of a mechanism to adopt large-scale projects, prevention of piracy, armed robbery, unregulated fishing and disaster management.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Ali Mohamed Omar met with the State Minister for External Affairs and Education of India, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, and discussed with him the acceleration of the process of reopening the Indian Embassy in Mogadishu, increasing the number of scholarships, facilitating medical, tourist and student visa procedures for Somalis, as well as financial transactions and joint coordination between the two friendly countries in international situations.

Also, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met on the sidelines of the meeting with the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, and discussed with him raising the level of bilateral relations between the two countries and consolidating cooperation in the political, security, medical, educational and tourism fields.

IORA is the largest and pre-eminent organization in the Indian Ocean Region with 23 Members and 10 Dialogue Partners.

The minister also held bilateral talks on the sides of the 22nd meeting of the Council of Ministers of the IORA in Dhaka with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, A. K. Abdul Momen, and discussed with him strengthening relations and expanding cooperation in all fields, including medical, higher education, tourism and joint coordination.
