William Ruto Is Declared Winner of Kenya's 2022 Presidential Election

William Ruto has been elected as the fifth president of Kenya on Monday, August 15, announced the winner of the highly contested elections.

The chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati, declared Ruto as the duly elected president with 7,176,141 votes (50.49%).

Ruto’s fierce rival Raila Odinga who flew the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party flag, came a close second with 6,942,930 votes (48.85%).

Minutes after the results were confirmed, a section of African leaders sent their congratulatory messages.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa said he believed Ruto will serve Kenyans with distinction.

“Congratulations to @WilliamsRuto on his election as the next president of Kenya. I have no doubt he will serve his country, his people and our continent with distinction.´´ Emmerson Mnangagwa Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa said.

Mohammed Farmaajo Former Somalia president Mohammed Farmaajo praised Kenyans for conducting a peaceful election.

“I wish to offer my most sincere congratulations to President-Elect of Kenya H.E. @WilliamsRuto and the people of Kenyan following the successful conclusion of the elections. You truly ran an enriching, overpowering campaign & May God help you fulfil your vision for your country.” Farmaajo said.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wished Ruto the best of luck, promising to work closely to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.
