Former Al-Shabaab spokesman Mukhtar Robow officially takes office as Somalia’s new Minister of Religious Affairs

The new Minister of Religious Affairs Minister, Mukhtar Robow on Wednesday took over reins from his predecessor Sheikh Omar Ali Roble.

During the handover ceremony, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu witnessed by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Bare, Robow expressed his commitment to advancing plans for the country’s development.

The new minister who is a co-founder and former deputy leader of Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia said he will his best to deal with any ´´religious blunder in a united manner.”

The former Religious Affairs Minister pledged that he would continue helping his successor and the government.

Robow was among the ministers appointed by the premier last week.

The move fueled debate with some were critical of Hamza Abdi Barre’s administration for aopointing Mukhtar Robow as the minister in charge of religious affairs, others laud the move as a step towards reconciliation and smart way to battle against the group.
