Somali president holds talks with Ugandan counterpart

The President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni received at his office President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is on a working visit in Kampala.

The leaders discussed on the developing of relations and cooperation between the two countries, regional stability and interests.

The two Presidents encouraged the holding of the First Meeting of the Members of the Joint Permanent Committee (JPC) of the two countries, which is part of the development of diplomatic and political cooperation, security and trade cooperation, welcoming the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Kampala, signed by the Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia who are accompanying the President and their counterparts in Uganda.

President Hassan Sheikh thanked President Museveni, the government and the people of his country for their support to the Somali people and government, especially their role in the peace, security and stability of the country. He also praised the fraternal stance of the Ugandan government in supporting the Somali government’s request to join the East African Community (EAC).

On his part, President Museveni thanked President Hassan Sheikh for responding to his invitation and for these fruitful discussions.

The two Presidents instructed the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries who witnessed the agreements and understandings signed between Somalia and Uganda, to ensure the implementation of the decisions and recommendations from the first meeting of the Standing Committee of the two countries, and also conduct a regular review to observe the progress made in their implementation, and to explore other areas in which the two countries can cooperate.
