Somali new Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially begins discharging his duties.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has today officially begun his work after formally taking over from former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on Tuesday.
Photos taken from him showed the new Prime Minister in the course of discharging his duty at his office in his first day.
Barre formally assumed the office as the country’s 21st Prime Minister on Tuesday.
Former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble handed over the power to him in a colourful ceremony held at office of the Somali Prime Minister in the capital Mogadishu.
The handing over ceremony was attended by outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Khadar Guleid, Speakers of both Lower and Upper Houses Sheikh Adan Madobe and Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, outgoing Cabinet members and other senior government officials.
Hamza was on Saturday unanimously approved by the Somali Parliament in a sitting held at the Parliamentary Chambers of Villa Hargeisa.
All the 220 MPs who attended the session overwhelmingly endorsed the appointment of Barre as Prime Minister.
Ex- Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has been at the helm of the Premier docket since September 2020 after he was appointed by former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo following the removal of the then PM Hassan Ali Kheyre.
Barre now becomes the 21st Prime Minister to serve the East African Nation.
He is set to name members of his Cabinet in the coming weeks.
