Somalia’s Puntland State leader Said Abdullahi Deni has appointed a ministerial committee to assess the impact of the ongoing drought in the regional State.

The committee will also be tasked with coming up with ways of delivering and distributing food aid to vulnerable families affected by the severe drought.

The regional leader made this appointment during a cabinet meeting he chaired in the region’s capital Garowe.

The committee comprises of ministers from several ministries.

The region is one of the worst places affected by the ongoing devastating drought in the country.

Local authorities in the region have also bolstered and scaling up response efforts in the State.

The local authorities are working closely with aid agencies to mitigate the situation in region.

Somalia is grappling with the worst drought conditions in decades that has precipitated huge displacement of people and even decimated crops and livestock.
