Somaliland President Muse Bihi pledges 1 Million US dollars to traders who lost property in Hargeisa Market fire
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has announced that his government will give 1 million US dollars to the traders who lost their property to the massive fire that engulfed Hargeisa market.
Bihi confirmed that the fire injured 28 people.Number of deaths remains unknown.
He made the remarks while making an inspection tour to Waheen Market in Hargeisa after a massive inferno ripped through the market, destroyed property worth millions and injuring civilians, in the worst blaze ever seen in the capital Hargeisa in recent years.
President Bihi confirmed that 28 people, nine of them women, were wounded in the fire and were rushed to the city’s main hospital for treatment, noting that the injuries were not major
Combined efforts by thousands of residents, government troops, local authorities and fire fighters from Ethiopia Somali region managed to battle the blaze which swept through Saturday morning, forcing the Mayor of Hargeisa Abdikarim Ahmed Moge, to impose curfew on the market last night, as the crowd frantically rushed in extinguishing the fire.
Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, his Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and Somali leaders sent their grief’s to the people of Somaliland who lost their property in the Waaheen Market fire
The Ethiopian Prime Minister also expressed his sympathy with the people of Hargeisa for forfeiting their source of livelihood, pledging stand by the Hargeisa people at this difficult time.
“I am shocked and saddened by the fire that broke out in the Central Market in Hargeisa, which caused extensive damage to public property. The losses are incalculable at this time,” said the Ethiopian Prime.
“We share the grief of the people of Somaliland,” added Ahmed.
