Gov’t Spokesman Moalimu Jets Back Home After Medical Treatment In Turkey

Somalia government spokesperson Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimu has returned home after medical treatment from Turkey.

Moalimu was welcomed at Aden Adde International Airport by government officials, the media fraternity among others on Wednesday.

The spokesman thanked Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble for his role in his treatment and the doctors who took part in his recovery process.

“I thank the prime minister and everyone who including the doctors and the journalists who stood by me during the the difficult times,” Moalimu said.

The senior government official reiterated that he will vie for a parliamentary seat in the ongoing Lower House elections.

The veteran journalist sustained serious injuries in an Al-Shabaab suicide bombing in Mogadishu last month.

He was airlifted from Aden Adde International Airport on January 18th following a request to Turkey by the office of the Prime Minister.

He sustained minor injuries from the attack and broke one of his legs and also on his one hand as well.

Moalimu has been vocal in defending journalists rights and standing against abuses against members of the press across Somalia.

He resigned as the Secretary General of the Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) in December 2020, after being appointed as the Spokesperson of the Federal Government of Somalia and Senior Media Adviser to the Prime Minister.

He has been outspoken in his position as the FESOJ Secretary General.
