Int'l partners, Opposition Candidates Hail planned NCC Meeting

Somalia’s international partners welcomed the prime minister’s plan to convene a National Consultative Council (NCC)meeting in Mogadishu.

The partners included the African Union, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, European Union (EU) among other Western countries called on Somali leaders of the NCC to agree swiftly on a transparent and credible way of proceeding with the House of the People elections.

”We urge Somalia’s leaders to conclude the electoral process as soon as possible and urge the implementation of necessary enhancements to correct observed shortcomings to ensure the outcome will obtain the support and confidence of the Somali people,” the partners said in a joint statement issued in Mogadishu.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, on December 27, 2021, invited the Presidents of the Federal Member States (FMS) to Mogadishu to accelerate the ongoing election process and discuss with the respective leaders the best way to stick to election procedures.

Meanwhile, the Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) welcomed the premiers move to convene a national consultative forum.

Early this month, the Council of Presidential Candidates threatened to boycott ongoing polls citing electoral fraud.
