6 People Jailed To Five Years For Drugs-sale Case In Puntland
A court in the Nugaal region of Puntland has sentenced up to six people for trading in alcohol.
The culprits were arrested in recent operations done within Garowe neighbourhoods. Following several sittings, the Nugal regional court sentenced the six culprits to up to five years in jail and fined them as well.
The arrest and sentencing of the five people is part of efforts by Puntland security forces to curb drug trade and consumption within the State.
Puntland regional officials have vowed to combat drug and alcohol use in the region. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in Somalia due to the country’s Islamic culture. Most of the alcohol smuggled into Puntland arrives from Ethiopia.
Such operations were also conducted in Galkayo.
