Puntland Refutes Claims It Supported Ahlu Sunna

Puntland state has refuted claims that it supported the Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a group in the fight against the government in Galmudug.

Mudug region governor Abdilatif Muse Nur (Sanyare) denied that Puntland supported Ahlu Sunna and termed it propaganda to tarnish Puntland image.

”Puntland has always helped Galmudug in the fight against Al-Shabaab and stands with the administration to weed out the militants in the region,” said Abdilatif Sanyare.

The response by Puntland state comes amid reports the leader of Sufi Muslim group Ahlu Sunna, Sheikh Mohamed Shakir fled to Puntland.

On Tuesday, Galmudug leader Ahmed Qoorqoor claimed some regional administrations and foreign countries were behind the return of Ahlu Sunna Waljamaa.
