US To Review Support For Danab Forces After Galmadug-ASWJ Fight

Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a (AWSJ) fighters have vacated Guriel town of central Somalia in central Somalia after four days of gunfight with government forces.

Speaking to the media, Guriel District Police Commander, Gen. Osman Ali Hudey said normalcy has returned to the town and some of the Ahlu Sunna group members surrendered to the government.

“Government are now in full control of Guriel and I urge the people who fled from the clashes to return back to their homes,” said Huudey.

Ahlu Sunna forces reportedly vacated Guriel after local businessmen and politicians facilitated talks to secure a safe passage for the group.

The fighting in Guriel has claimed the lives of dozens of people, injured others, and displaced over 100,000 Somalis According to AAmin ambulance chairman, Dr. Abdulkadir Adan.

”The clashes destroyed and displaced families and loss of properties, including public hospitals,” said Dr Adan.

The development came as the U.S said it will Review Support for Danab, the U.S.-trained elite Somali forces after they participated in Guriel fighting.

Among those killed in the fighting included Danab commander, Major Abdilatif Ahmed Ali Fayfle and other senior military officials who were wounded.

Danab forces are trained by the US and are instrumental in leading sophisticated operations against the Al-Shabaab group.
