Two Al-Shabaab Operatives defects to Somali Government
Two Al-Shabaab militants have defected and surrendered to Somali security forces in southern Somalia.
According to Somali National Army, Idris Abdullahi Moalim has surrendered to Somali forces in Baidoa town.
”Idris Abdullahi Maalim, also known as Food Cade surrendered to the Somali National Army in Baidoa,” SNA said in a brief statement.
The military said the defector was a prison guard in a prison.
The military also said another operative identified as Asad Sharif Abukar surrendered in Awdhegle town.
This comes just days after the Somali military destroyed three vehicles packed with explosives in southern Somalia.
The militants who want to overthrow Somalia’s internationally-backed government have been carrying out attacks against military and civilian targets since 2011 when Al-Shabaab lost control of Mogadishu to SNA backed by AMISOM troops.
