Implement Women Quota System, Minister Hanifa Tells Regional States
Somalia’s Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, Hanifa Mohamed Habsade, has called on regional states not to violate the agreement reached by the federal government leaders of the regional States to protect the quota for women.
Hanifa Habsade said that one of the three candidates should be a female candidate and called on regional governments to implement the agreement reached by the federal government and the federal member’s state leaders in Mogadishu.
Minister Hanifa said she was optimistic that this year women would get 30% of their seats in both Houses of Parliament.
Hanifa says that women are more than 50 per cent of the population and deserve the right to equal representation in the executive and legislative branches of government.
The agreement reached by the National Consultative Assembly in Mogadishu on May 27th was part of the protection of the quota for women and the inclusion of women candidates.
Two women have so far got the opportunity in the ongoing Upper House elections that kicked of last week.
