Opposition Candidates Accuse President Farmaajo of Meddling In Poll Process
Somali opposition candidates have accused incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo of meddling in poll preparations.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, opposition candidates said elections will not take place on time up until resolved the division in election committees of the northern region, the issue of Gedo region, security challenges in Hiiran region election funds not ready and the low preparation for the Upper House election.
The opposition candidates also expressed concern over the conduct of the country’s elections.
The council said that the electoral process faces many challenges that need to be addressed urgently for the country to hold free and fair elections.
They urged the government and other authorities in the country to address these issues.
The statement by the opposition comes days after the electoral commission announced a timetable and expected that the Upper House senators will be elected by the end of this month.
Last week dispute erupted between Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi and Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guleid over the composition of northern region electoral committee members.
