Farmaajo congratulates PM Abiy on election win
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who won the general elections on Saturday.
In a statement, Farmaajo said that he will continue to work with the government Abby Ahmed to further strengthen bilateral relations and benefit peoples of the two countries and the wider region.
“I warmly congratulate PM Abiy Ahmed on regaining a strong mandate from the people of Ethiopia,” President Farmaajo said.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Saturday won the elections.
According to the election board, abbiy’s Prosperity Party won 410 out of 436 seats, giving him another five-year term in office.
Polls were not held in the war-torn Tigray region, where many thousands are living in famine conditions.
Another round of elections has been provisionally scheduled for 6 September in the affected areas, but there is no date for a vote in Tigray.
