Al-Shabaab Targets Locals For Welcoming Somali military
Al-Shabaab fighters have reportedly abducted five civilians from Warciise, Qoordheere, WardhagaH and Dabagaab settlements under Jowhar and Raage-ceele areas after locals welcomed SNA officers with refreshments and milk following their liberation of several areas in the Middle Shabelle region.
The fighters also burnt several properties including three vehicles accusing their owners of trading with the SNA officers who took over the settlements a few weeks ago before retreating.
Those who fled the Al-Shabaab occupation have also seen their houses torched.
No statement has been issued by the local administration or the SNA regarding the latest move by Al-Shabaab to put pressure on civilians against working with government forces.
Somali military in the past months intensified operations against Al-Qaeda linked group Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region and liberated villages from the militants. The military also killed hundreds of Al-Shabaab group members in the operations.
