Over 60 Al-Shabaab Fighers Killed In Blast in Southern Somalia
More than 60 Al-Shabab fighters were killed and several others wounded in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device.
The Somali National Army (SNA) said that the al-Qaida allied terrorists died in the blast which took place at a village about 65 kilometres west of Qoryooley in southern Somalia while assembling the explosives when the blast occurred.
“The explosion took place at the Al-Shabab compound after explosive materials which were being prepared by terrorists exploded on Monday,” SNA said.
The militant group Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the incident.
Somali National Army (SNA) is conducting offensive security operations to flush out a terrorist group of Al-Shabab in the Middle Shabelle region in the past weeks killing at least 130 Al-Shabaab militants in the operations.
Al-Shabaab was forced out of the capital and other major urban areas in Somalia by national and African Union peacekeeping forces but they still carry out deadly bombings and attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere.
