CPC Blames Farmaajo Of Derailing Poll Process & Misuising Security Forces For Political Gains

The Council of Presidential Candidates has accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of derailing the electoral process and using national security forces.

In a letter to the international community, the presidential candidates accused Farmaajo of using troops trained by the US and Turkey to suppress the demonstrators and attack members of the council of presidential candidates.

”The former President assuredly and in our best estimation will not yield power voluntarily, and, furthermore, he will continue to disrupt efforts to conduct a democratic electoral process,” the statement read.

The move by the presidential candidates comes a day after Somali government spokesman said the federal government will meet the FMS leaders to finalize the Sept 17 election deal.

On Thursday the opposition leaders postponed an anti-government rally after the government deployed troops at Daljirka Dahson and blocked main roads in the capital.

The spokesman of the CPC said the rally was postponed due to insecurity and the spread of Coronavirus.

Somalia was due to hold parliamentary elections by December 2020 while the presidential poll was to take place in February.
