Mudey Steals Show At BRA Ceremony, Tells PM Kheyre To Respect Past Leaders

Radio Dalsan Reporter

The Deputy Speaker of the Somali Parliament Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey on Monday night said Prime Minister Kheyre’s administration should not undermine the efforts and achievements of leaders who have worked before them, Radio Dalsan reports.

Speaking at a colourful ceremony at the Banadir administration headquarters to welcome the region’s new Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Abdirahman Omar Osman “Yarisow” and mark a farewell to the outgoing Thabit Abdi Mohamed, Mudey said that the country has gone through several stages to come to the current political status and that all the leaders who worked towards these achievements deserve respect and recognition.

“Day after day, successive governments have had their contribution. I want to recall and mention that I heard many people in my friend Kheyre’s administration saying they have done something. My friend Yarisow was in the administration. I want people to appreciate what had been achieved by the past administrations. Not doing so will be lack of appreciation,” said Mr Mudey.

Mr Mudey told leaders appointed from the Somalia diaspora to respect the locals.

“You came to a place where people have gone through tough time and many died for, and now built. Why don’t you say what the previous people have done?” questioned Mudey.

“That kind of lack of appreciation is not good. I want what every Somali has done in the past and now to be appreciated,” he added.

Mudey pointed out that government officials with dual citizenship are likely to fly out of the country if the situation worsened unlike the locals.

Mr Mudey’s remarks were seen to be sarcastic to the Prime Minister Kheyre’s commonly used phrase in his speeches “it’s the first time” in regard to anything positive his administration does.
