Egyptian diplomats became the latest foreign tourists to visit the latest popular destination in Somalia the coastal town of Warsheekh.

Led by Egypt’s Consular in Somalia the diplomats visited historical sites and beaches that have lately seen visitors pour into the Hirshabelle town which is only an hour’s drive from Somali capital Mogadishu.

” I am delighted to be here. The weather is beautiful, security is okay, the beaches amazing and for me visiting the Sufi tombs and other Sufi historical sites has been amazing” Tanner Safwet the Egyptian Consular told Radio Dalsan.

The tourists had a chance to meet the top most religious head of the town who is an Azhar University educated cleric.

“As a Sufi most of us were educated in Egypt” Sheikh Abdirahman said during his meeting with the Egyptians.

“I am amazed that the Sheikh very good Egyptian Arabic just like I am back home” Safwet commented.

The Egyptian diplomats were accompanied by officials from the Banaadir region administration.

Warsheekh was before the civil war a popular destination for Sufi adherents who visited tombs of Sufi clerics and saints buried in the town.
It was also a popular getaway for beach lovers away from the mostly crowded Mogadishu beaches.

Recently the town which is only 90km north of Mogadishu has seen a boom of visitors.
