Ethiopia Frees a Somali Journalist Serving a Long Jail Term
A Somali journalist who was serving a long jail term in Ethiopia was set free after the Somali government intervened his case. Journalist Mohamed Aweys Mudey who is nicknamed as the “King of the Central”, contacted his family in Mogadishu informing them about his release.
“I filled the release form and I’m at the immigration department of Ethiopia waiting for the embassy officials. I’m very much grateful to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mr Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the Prime Minister Mr Hassan Ali Kheyre who are behind my release order. I would like to inform all my colleagues in the media that I’m expecting to be in Mogadishu early this week”, said Mr Mudey.
A few months ago, there were reports that the journalist was released but later proved to be false.
