Somali opposition political parties order president to vacate state house, handover state property by 10th September 2016

Somali opposition political parties have called on the president to vacate villa Somalia, hand over security and state property by 10th September 2016.

Speaking during meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday about the state of delayed elections, political party leaders have called the extension of government term as unconstitutional.

They urged the president to hand over security, state property and vacate Villa Somalia by 10th September saying beyond that date is unconstitutional.

The opposition parties have raised their concern on what they described as government excuse to extent period in office saying there is need for Villa Somalia to respect the constitution of the country.

They urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to respect article 91 of the constitution of the federal republic of Somalia which clearly stipulates Presidential term in office.

The party leaders suggested the Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke to stand by as acting President when Sheikh Mohamud follows the order by vacating through constitutional means.

There concern comes as government and its international partners are meeting in Mogadishu to discuss way forward in the historic elections in the horn of African state.
