US AFRICOM Head Meets Somalia Govt Ahead Of Withdrawal Of American Troops

The head of U.S command General Stephen Townsend has visited Somalia and met with the Minister of Defense Hassan Hussein Haji and senior Somali military officials.

The two teams discussed cooperation and military relations between the two governments and to heighten the war against Al-Shabaab.

They also discussed U.S support for the training of the Somali National Army, to strengthen the capacity of the Somali military.

The U.S government had close to 800 troops in Somalia who were recently moved to the neighbouring countries.

The meeting comes barely two days after a landmine explosion targeting lower Shabelle governor killed six U.S trained Danab forces, soldiers, in Lower Shabelle region.

A military commander Major Mohamed Dhere who was among those killed in the attack after he sustained serious injuries.

The attack which was claimed by Al-Shabaab also wounded Danab forces commander who was flown to Mogadishu for treatment
