Premier Bank has launched Somalia’s first mobile wallet service in a ceremony in the capital Mogadishu.
Available across the country Premier wallet is a fast, simple and secure service that allows its users to load cash on their mobile devices and spend it to pay utility bills and recharges, shop and transact online.
“The PremierWallet services by Premier Bank is well-timed coming at the advent of covid19. Customers can now access their account at the comfort and safety of their homes without visiting the Banking Halls” Somalia’s Trade & Commerce Minister Khalif Omar said at the launch.
Aimed at offering customers with an efficient alternative to cash transactions, Premier wallet will provide customers across the country with a convenient and secure way of making payments through the ubiquitous mobile platform.
In her address, Somalia Central Bank Deputy Governor Maryam Moalim said the bank had played a significant role in the post-civil war Somalia.
”Premier Bank has set the standards for all Somali banks, PremierWallet has created opportunities for the youth and job opportunities,” Maryam said.
The launch was attended by Minister of Planning and Investment Gamal Hassan, officials from the central bank of Somalia, MPs and governors.
Premier Bank was opened in Somalia in 2015 according to Sharia law by private Somali investors with banking experience from South Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya.
The bank has branches in Mogadishu and Hargeisa.
It is the first bank in Somalia to introduce Mastercard credit cards and partner with Visa.
Premier Bank in partnership with Mastercard and SWIFT provides to its local clients for global online financial services.
