Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble last night met with media owners to discuss their role in covering the election.
Mr Roble urged the country’s media owners to strengthen their role in educating the public.
“Somali journalists have played a significant role in state-building, peacebuilding, informing and educating the public, leading to deaths and other crises. “As the country goes to the polls,”
”I urge them to play their part in orienting and informing the public,” a statement posted on the Prime Minister’s Facebook page said.
The prime minister called on media owners to take responsibility for showing fairness, transparency and responsibility in covering election issues.
The prime minister’s meeting with the media was attended by heads of independent and state-run media.
