Crucial meeting for opposition presidential candidates kick off in Mogadishu

A meeting between the presidential candidates for the 2021 elections has kicked off at the Jazeera Hotel near Mogadishu airport.

12 presidential candidates have gathered in Mogadishu for a 3 days crucial meeting crucial conference which will be attended by former PM Hassan Ali Kheire, former presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.

Before the conference kicked off journalists allowed to take pictures and videos and then sent outside, with the conference happening behind closed doors.

Much of the focus will also be on elections and the transition in the country.

Opposition candidates are also expected to discuss the upcoming elections and the recently appointed electoral committee.

It is also expected that the conference will result in a joint resolution by opposition leaders on the upcoming elections.

Somalia is preparing for parliamentary and presidential elections, and there is a rift between the government and the opposition.
