Security forces in the semi-autonomous region of Galmudug, have seized a land cruiser vehicle carrying 124 bottles of alcoholic drinks.
According to the Adado district police commissioner, Ali Mohamed Hassan the vehicle was intercepted as the smuggler was passing through Adado town in the Galagaduud region of Galmadug state, roughly 559km from Mogadishu.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all parts of Somalia while the Galmudug authority often reports seizure of drinks smuggled to the region.
Adado district police commissioner who led the operation, stated that his officers acted on a tip-off.
“We learnt that a land cruiser vehicle was transporting bottles with (alcoholic drinks),” said Ali Mohamed Hassan as the vehicle and the occupant were taken to Adado police station.
The officer said that investigations were going on to determine how and why banned substances were being transported through the region.
“Culprits will face the full force of the law once investigations are completed,” he added.
