Authorities in Somalia’s South West regional state on Thursday intercepted an explosive laden vehicle heading towards the administrative capital Baidoa thwarting a possible suicide bombing, Radio Dalsan reports.
The vehicle said to be a Noah make had forcibly passed through a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Baidoa town.
Security agents made a chase at the suspected vehicle impounding it and arresting the driver.
The incident coincided with the arrival of former Alshabaab deputy leader Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansoor to Baidoa.
Robow who defected to the government in August 2017 is on a visit of the town he once controlled as an Alshabaab leader between 2008 and 2012.
The Alqaeda linked militant group Alshabaab in January declared Robow an “apostate” who could be killed.
