Somali Al Qaida linked militant group Al Shabaab has called its members to carry out attacks such as September 2013 Nairobi Westgate shopping mall attack in US, UK and Canada.
More than 60 people were killed and over 200 others were wounded during four days siege in upmarket mall popular with foreigners in Kenyan capital.
In the group’s new video, several shopping centers such as mall of America in Minnesota, US, West Edmonton Mall in Canada and London’s Westfield Stratford were featured as potential target.
Mall of America said in a statement immediately after the video that it will take the threat seriously and put all necessary security measures in place.
1 hour and 16 minute long video also features the group slain leader Ahmed Abdi Godane for the first time since killed in US drone strike on September last year, Salah Nabhan who was too killed by US drone in 2009 and Nairobi Westgate shopping mall attackers.
Al Shabaab new threat comes just one day after it claimed the responsibility of the deadly Mogadishu central hotel double explosive attack.
25people were killed including two members of Somali National Assembly members and 45 others wounded among them Deputy Prime Minister Mohamed Omar Arte who was since airlifted to Turkey for further medical attention.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has condemned the attack saying his government will not give up on its fight against terrorism.
