Three killed in Alshabaab charcoal ban

Three people lost their lives while more than six others wounded when Alshabaab militants opened fire where crowd of charcoal traders gathered.

The incident took place in Burgabo which is 240 KM South West of the port city of Kismayu.

The move follows after armed group issued laws banning cutting down of vegetation for charcoal trade in

the area.

Several UN monitoring report on Somalia has accused armed group and Kenyan Defense Forces that are part of peace keeping troops in complicit in the illegal lucrative trade.

According to 2014 report over one million sacks of charcoal was exported via Kismayu port under the watch of African Union Peace Keeping troops.

Despite UN embargo on charcoal export still there is report of significant export of the black gold to middle east countries.
